Finales

As badassmuthas.com's foremost TV aficionado, I've been remiss on commenting on the latest TV happenings.

The Sopranos: Didn't we all see this coming? Were we not expecting some kind of unsatisfying open-ended thinking man's ending? Isn't that what REALLY caused the tension we felt while watching the diner scene? Not so much "oooh, who's gonna get it???" but more of a "shit there's only like a minute left, nothing's gonna happen."

I would have liked a nice neat resolving violent ending as much as anybody, but I have to admit, that wouldn't have really fit the styleof the series. I sort of understand what everyone is furious about, but not really. B

The Shield: A weak ending for such a fun season. Everything wrapped up a little TOO neatly. Heads needed to roll. C

Prison Break: "Hey this show's getting pretty good ratings! Let's reset and do it all over again!" C+ (plus for hot Bellick nudity)

Heroes: A fittingly weak ending to a weak series. Peter Patrelli has the ultimate super-power, yet all he appears to be capable of is turning into an invisible pussy. The only time Peter can't seem to activate his awesome run-away ability is when he turns into a nuclear bomb. Oh, and a word of advice, Pete. If you happen to overhear super-villain Sylar think "The feds are after him, I'll use that to my advantage" maybe you can help a brotha out when the feds just happen to capture Tim in the next 30 seconds. You dick. Finale C- Patrelli F---

Lost: The twist at the end was good, I'll give 'em that. But criminy, everyone is acting like the Lost finale was a sweet-ass Dyno with chrome hex pegs. Charlie's death was retarded. He could have ran out the door, put on swim gear, left door open blah blah blah. Whatev. B

The Office: Funny AND there's some semblance of a plot that you actually care about. Kind of rare for a comedy these days (I'm looking at you 'It's always Sunny in Philadelphia'). Good stuff right up to the final line - "We're through". A

Scrubs: I'm kind of embarrassed that I used to tell people I like this show - and by "used to" I mean like 4 months ago. Sappy crappy. What happened in the finale? Did i even watch it? Do I even care? Wasn't there a musical episode this season? Compared to most shows, the finale was a C. Compared to what Scrubs used to be: D

Eureka 7: Wow. What a standard vague, lame, eco-centric anime ending. D

I watch more TV then I thought.

Another Good Heroes

Any show that kills off major characters gets a thumbs up in my book. My only gripe with this week's episode has to do with the Syler/Peter confrontation. It was actually a little more entertaining than I expected, but it could have used more super-sparring. Also, the 15 minutes I spent thinking "Pull the fucking glass out of his head" were irritating.

Kudos for killing off Simone 3 episodes ago, too - not sure if I mentioned that before. It was probably my favorite moment of the series.

Next week looks fun.

Heroes Episode 10 - Tolerable!

This isn't saying much, but this was one of the best episodes in a while*. The Sylar origin was interesting and actually not what I expected. The Nickie stuff was tolerable and Mohinder only got like 30 seconds of screentime. But man, this show is just dumb sometimes:

Parkman continuously fails the detective test because he's dyslexic? Ok. Wait, what? I guess in 11 years of police work he never had to write any reports ... or take any statements ... or read any handbooks ... or take any tests in the police academy?? I'm not saying dyslexia wouldn't be a problem for him, but how did he get this far? And even if it is plausible, isn't there some kind of training that can help the situation? Famous dyslexic, Theo Huxtable, grew up to be a school teacher.

I guess he was fudging the reading parts too.

The Hiro piece was silly. Writing time travel stuff can get pretty tricky, I understand that. It's a plot device that can have an awesome payoff but it comes fully-loaded with continuity pitfalls. A brotha's got to plan ahead. 10 episodes in and Heroes already fucked up. The girl has the Japanese translation book, but she doesn't remember Hiro? That's some sloppy work. And how about those oragami swans? Hiro can freeze time for a few weeks now I guess?

Oh and of course they fall in love...shocker!

*Last week's was decent, the other cheerleaders death was surprisingly gory and surprisingly surprising, but the showdown between Peter and Sylar was weeeeaaak.

Hellboy

I wasn't even aware that there was some Hellboy animation in the works when I stumbled across Hellboy: Sword of Storms stored in my DVR (younger brother is always up on Cartoon Network happenings). IMHO it's way better than the theatrical movie. As far as I could tell, it's a totally new Hellboy story that deals with the typical Hellboy subject matter (occult and mystical type stuff - in this case, Japanese folklore). I'm not a big enough Hellboy head to determine whether these straight to DVD joints run with the comics, the movies or are a separate universe all together. If I had to bet, I'd say it's closer to the comic.

Mike Mignola's style was adapted pretty well for animation. It's not exactly the same of course, but it's close enough. The animation itself was solid. Fights were entertaining and in fact, surprisingly gory for a Toonami airing. There were also curse words (crap and damn). All good stuff. If you're into the animation process, this is kind of cool.

Trinity Blood

I'm back, and better than EVER! Well not really better than ever, but just as good at least.

Is anyone watching Trinity Blood? I've commented on it before and after seeing a few more episodes, my opinion hasn't changed: MEDIOCRE with a little dash of gay. I'll take my anime violence well animated, not implied, thank you very much!

And now, some implied violence.

Equivalent Exchange

Just watched the Full Metal Alchemist movie. Plot-wise, it's ok. Animation-wise it's pretty AWESOME. If you're a fan of the series or just a fan of animated violence, you should definitely check it out.

In honor of Rossman's bachelor party, a new comic.

Love & Peace!

I just realized last night that Bleach's protagonist, Ichigo, is voiced by the same guy that played Vash the Stampede. At least, I think it's the same guy. I made a half-assed attempt to look it up, but Wikipedia failed me. As the Internet is well aware, I'm a big Vash fan, so Bleach is now that many muthas-bucks richer.

As for Trinity Blood, or whatever that vampire show is called- not really my thing. This is an extremely shallow review, based on one episode, but I just didn't like the style. I mean, a priest with monster killing super-powers...YEAH RIGHT.

Nuevo Comico.

Bleach

It looks like Bleach is coming to Adult Swim. That's a good thing. I've only seen two episodes of the anime but I'm a fan of the manga. It starts Saturday, Sept. 9th, so I probably won't watch it until it gets shifted to the weekly 1:00 am slot. That's a while off, but I'm looking forward to it.

New comic. Reading is fundamental.

Metalocolypse (sp!)

I'm liking Metalocolypse so far. Of course, I've only seen three episodes, but I fucking bleed metal, dude. I just wish I could tell what the fuck the characters were saying most the time.

I'm a fan of the direction Adult Swim has taken recently. Original ideas and decent artwork (Metalocolypse, Morel Oral, Minoriteam) have replaced the "wacky" not-really-that-funny humor and shitty-retard scribble drawings (12 Ounce Mouse, Squidbillies) of a few months ago. That's really ripper.

For the record: Not a huge Minoriteam fan. Lines from 12 Ounce get stuck in my head and result in a chuckle a few days later. The voice-acting in Squidbillies is awesome, but hey, if you're gonna keep running that shiz, let's get more then three episodes RIGHT???

New comic. I'll be in Chicago this weekend. So if you're in the area and you notice a spiky-haired lankman who is handsomer than can, tell him you like his doodles.

iron reaver soul stealer

I have mixed feelings about Inuyasha. I never go out of my way to watch it. In my head, it's kind of lame. The story never seems to go anywhere and the romantic "tension" is kind of fruity. But if the show is on and I happen to catch it, I usually enjoy it. The action is usually pretty good and I actually Laugh Out Loud at some of the character interactions. Most of the cast is useless unless they're killing jobber demons but Inuyasha and Sesshomaru(sp!) are pretty kewl doods.

On that note, the Inuyasha movie that was on the other night, Sword of a Something Ruler, was one of the best anime series movies I've seen. The plot broke down a little something like this:

Cool intro scene with Inuyasha's daddy

About 10 minutes or so of standard Inuyasha gayness

Action scene

Action scene

Action scene

Action scene

I may have left out an action scene somewhere. In other words I liked it.

New comic. Feel free to leave a critique on my sterling new SHOUTBOX!

Showtime

Big O is on Adult Swim again...it's an alright show... I guess. It would be nice to see two giant robots fight without having to sit through 25 minutes of boring shit, but hey, at least Big O usually pays off in the end. (I'm looking at you, Evangelion).

New comic, kids.

Ghost in the Shizzell

I liked the first season. It was slow at times, but overall the episodes were pretty cool, especially near the end.

The 2nd GIG has an entire episode devoted to the tachcomas (blue tank spider things, however that's spelt) discussing the nature of life...IT'S HIT OR MISS, LADIES AND GERMS!

It may be a few hours late, but welcome to update city.
