Page 66 - Exceptions

A Wednesday update?! IN BLACK & WHITE???!!!!!! Explanation to follow...

...like, right now. Expect the next few pages to be black and white. I'm trying some new things, spicing it up, if you will. I'm hoping this method will enable me to crank out more updates. Maybe even make 2 updates a week a reality (but don't hold me to that). In any case, it should make the one update a week a little more consistent.

Feel free to let me know how you feel about it - love, hate, indifference. All feedback is welcome.

Madness!

Madness? This... is... nah, nevermind, too cliche.

Can't wait for the colors, Duke, the colors!

I would definitely like to see more often/more consistent updates, but the colors are my favorite part of your art. They add such great, bold, cartoony awesome to the comic, and I'd hate to see them go. In my opinion, you should keep things the way they are, with great big full-color updates coming in whenever they do.

Also, I agree that McFly looks a lot different, but it could just be that I've rarely seen him with his eye(s) open.

Hey, Dave. Hernando here: The first fan to ever contact you through MySpace. I agree, the colors are an integral part of your comic. Your signature use of what I refer to as "off colors" is what separates you from the garish circus colors most comic artists use. It seems your inspirations are pretty similar to my own. Robos are always a welcome addition to any comic.

I've gotta agree with the with what the others are saying. I mean, I really don't mind the sparse updates, it's actually a bit endearing. But the quality really does make up for the lack of updates.

I'd hate to see those sweet colors go, it just ads too much atmosphere, volume and depth.

Agreed with above. Would gladly take quality over quantity.

Heh, I get a kinda Sin City feel to this issue... But it lacks the stark colours, course.

I would miss the colours a LOT if you got rid of them, but perhaps only colouring certain things might work? I dunno, I'm not an artist.

But without the colours not only would your comics be less bombastic, but many things would be lost. Such as calling Ralph 'Blue' (as the cat-doc called him) and McFly's cool green coat would just be a cool coat.

But as you're the artist and we're your loyal troops, it's up to you. :) We've not complained about the wait before, so we won't start now.

Man, even minus color, page 66 is still McFly. (Pun completely intended.)

I like a splash of color as much as the next person, but if the omission will get the saga rolling down the road, then it's all good. Looking forward to it, mac.

(btw - big ups for that site shoutout a few posts ago. 'Preciate it.)

It's funny. I love the color and such. But DAMN I want to know what happens next!

Appreciate the feedback guys, keep it coming.

Just to clarify, it's never been my plan to remove color permanently. Every page will be colored at some point, coloring is actually my favorite part of the whole process. They just might go up as black and white at first and stay that way for a little while.

One thing I'm picking up from the comments is that the pace annoys ME more than most readers. And it has really been annoying me lately. But who knows, I can be a moody bitch sometimes.

He can see clearly now the robos have come... he can see ALLLLL obstacles in his way!

Early updates from this place is the most 'Bad Ass' way to start your morning.

That's not to say quantity isn't nice too. As a famous general once said, quantity has a quality all on it's own.

I'm going to break with popular opinion and say I really like your style in black and white, perhaps even a bit more than in colour.

Black and white is fine too!

Just so you all know, kelvingreen IS a communist. The black and white in this page has more of a sketchy feel to it, rather than a finished-product look. If, as you said, you're planning to colour all of the pages, maybe you could start up an irregular, experimental off-story comic to help you mess with new styles 'n' junk. I'm sure that's been floatin' round your head for some time anyways.

Well, being a webcomic artist myself, I can't help but wonder if you would ever actually get around to coloring, especially if the color gets lagged too far behind. I myself hate working on old and published pages. If there's errors in the drawings or color or spelling or whatever I never fix them. I just say to myself "Oh well, I'll do better next page" and move on.

That's a valid point, chaniac. I've noticed some errors here and there as I scan through my old pages. Mispellings / typos I always fix, but some inconsistency errors I just go "fuck it".

But coloring is a bit different then fixing an error, for me anyway. When coloring time comes, there'll be a week or two without a new page as I color everything in bulk.

True, I am a filthy communist, but we communists know what we like!
